“Crashed Out”, the outro track of Beach Fossils’ 2013 album Clash The Truth, rides the wave of the grander album to its melodically enchanting conclusion. “Crashed Out” features a unique structure, with an instrumental intro and a brief vocal section followed by an extended instrumental outro that serves both as a great single and a wonderful end to the record. For months, I’ve come back to the track specifically for its unorthodox structure, which allows for an unusually high amount of melodic and rhythmic variation. The guitars reach low throughout the vocal section and introduction, all while the percussion remains constant, building up a pervasive sense of tension that culminates in a spectacularly cathartic release with rapid drums and screeching guitars. “Crashed Out” is one of the most satisfying and beautiful album finales I’ve ever heard.
