Dominick Fernow’s 2011 album under his Prurient alias, Bermuda Drain, marked a significant shift in the aesthetics of his noise project - it brought synthesizers and lyrics to the forefront, and noise became an accomplice to the atmospherics. The opening track, “Many Jewels Surround The Crown” is a chilling example of that new sound. Crystalline noise weaves amongst a descending tapestry of arpeggiated synthesizers. Fernow’s narration is steady, and his writing is intensely visual -- providing us with glimpses of a midnight freeze that sets an attitude for the rest of the album.
