The farmhouse is a little gross. It’s got clusterflies (never really heard of them either), and maybe the weather isn’t that great and the wooden areas are still a little damp and mucky. Maybe there’s still that wet mold smell lingering in the entrance left over from the winter, and the warmer spring weather is encouraging the flies to swoop around. Still, the farmhouse is big, and it’s got that beautiful porch you can sit on out front and it’s miles away from society and surrounded by golden fields.

Though I have no idea what the place “Farmhouse” is based off of is really like, I always think of the farmhouse as a sanctuary from the world, real or imagined, one you think about and go back to every time you need an escape.

The song, improvised five minutes into a getaway in Vermont and based off a note left for the members of Phish, still retains the initial good humor and good feelings that went into its creation. In between each swaying beat, you can easily insert your own rose-colored memories of times when you finally felt satisfied, even if things still weren’t 100% great.
