I’ve always been impressed by the diversity of the drum & bass produced by the duo of Darren Lewis and Iyiola Babalola -- best known as Future Cut. They keep a solid and distinctive sound (listen to the clarity and punch of the snares on tracks like “20/20” and “Hideous Kinky”) while tackling every angle from angsty amens (see the “Dieselboy” remix) to smooth vocal drum & bass (“Midnight”). The pair hasn’t put out any drum & bass in the past 12 years, but are now producing for the likes of Shakira, Little Mix, and Foxes. Despite their absence from the scene, I think this playlist stands as a testament to their skill as producers -- a duo that creates tracks that truly feel like a slice of the future.
