Some Sunsick Day - By Morgan Delt

TITLE: Some Sunsick Day

ARTIST: Morgan Delt

GENRE: Psychedelic / Sunshine pop

MOOD: Dreamy / Carefree / Bright

SIMILAR TO: Beach Fossils, Craft Spells

Though the track begins with the unnerving lyrics, “After the blast levels our town…”, “Some Sunsick Day” is as sunny as its title suggests. The song is permeated with a carefree optimism that suggests only endless summer days to look forward to, despite whatever calamity you might face.

What makes “Some Sunsick Day” so captivating is the synthesis of both artful lyrics and an artful sound. Both elements, though bordering clichés, are just unique enough to distinguish the song from the countless other reverberating indie pop songs being released, all generally about the same thing -- sunshine, tranquility, nonchalance. “Some Sunsick Day” has lyrics that easily blends into the soundscape of the track on a first listen, but when given attention, brings subtle reassurance.

And, of course, there is that beautiful riff -- that sweet, recurring melody that is too catchy to seem repetitive. Morgan Delt blends the refrain with a smooth bass line that supports the main guitar chords. It is a simple song upon examination, but so well done and so well put together that it’s all I’ve been listening to for the past week.
